I’m a sucker for an upbeat song paired with downer lyrics.

It’s a juxtaposition that makes me fall in love with music a little bit more.

I remember a few years ago, biking around SF to my favorite bike-riding playlist and whistling along to Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart”. I was so amazed by how sweet and lovely it sounded without the lyrics. How upbeat and optimistic it felt without hearing the phase “Love will Tear Us Apart” over and over again.

When songs, do that “fun beat/sad lyrics” combo right, it just puts a smile on my face.
